What's Up Wednesday: March 2016

Happy hump day guys!  I came across this fun link up party this morning and figured it would be fun to answer the questions.
Here we go!

What we are eating this week...
We have been following the 21 day fix thru Beachbody (if you are interested you can contact Katie via her blog Healthy Diva Life...she is an amazing beachbody coach and can hook you up!) If you don't know what the 21 day fix is you can find more info here, but basically you follow a workout plan and you eat easy pill, blah!  So we have been trying to eat healthy.  Veggies with salmon, homemade pasta sauce with whole grain noodles...we are grilling out tonight because the weather is so perfect:  turkey burgers/veggie burger for me, salad and grilled pinapple YUM. We have also really been loving smoothies!

What I'm Reminiscing About...
Our honeymoon in Key West, we love that place and could really use another trip soon!!

What I'm Loving...
This drink concoction:  Flip Flop Pink Moscato + Coconut La Croix + fun yummy!

What we have been up to...
Enjoying this awesome spring weather...playing outside every single chance we get...parks, sidewalk chalk, bubbles...

What I am dreading...
Hmmm, nothing actually comes to mind which is sort of nice. The laundry...I guess. I really need to do laundry today and that is never my favorite thing to do!!!

What I am working on...
Spring cleaning!!! I read some of  this book and it completely motivated me to clean, clean and then clean some more...or actually de-clutter and then clean.  It makes so much sense and I have been seriously getting rid of tons of stuff!

What I am excited about...
Two words: GARTH BROOKS!  The husband bought us tickets to his concert in a couple of week and I am beyond excited. I have ALWAYS wanted to see him live and was super sad when he came to close by cities and we just couldn't get there...but we are going and I am ready to sing along like a fool!!!

What I am watching/reading...
I have been pretty obsessed with watching every single episode of Fixer Upper...I pretty much feel like I could be best friends with Chip and Jojo, as does everyone else in the world I am sure.
As far as reading...I have a mild obsession with I am constantly listening to an audio book on my phone...constantly!  I love to read also, but I super love audio books because I can listen to them AND do other stuff like laundry (yuck) or cook dinner or do the dishes...multi tasking at its most entertaining.
I my favorite books right now are anything by Mary Kay Andrews. One of my recent faves by her was this one, Ladies Night. Really they are all really good, easy reads...perfect for laying around the pool or beach or listening to while washing dishes.

What I'm listening to...
I love most all music but recently I have been listening more to audio books, in case you didn't catch that from my answer above!  If not those, then kids songs like the Frozen soundtrack, Daniel Tiger or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Pandora channel.

What I'm Wearing...
Yeah...I can't even lie and say I have all these super amazing clothes I wear because the cold hard truth is: Yoga pants...that is pretty much my or workout pants and some sort of cute-ish light weight long sleeve tee or sweatshirt.  Stay at home mom stylin!

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
A whole lot of nothing and I am sort of ok with that because we have so much planned for the rest of the weekends in April...staying home will be nice.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
Again...GARTH BROOKS!!! More nice weather and enjoying being outside.  Celebrating our 3 year anniversary.

What Else is New...
I pretty much mentioned most everything that is going on over here at the French recap: audio books and Garth Brooks :)

Movie Time

So we decided it was time to give it a whirl and take Ellie to her first actually in the big theater.
We were both a little nervous that she may be too young and she is so hit or miss with movies.  The ones we think she will love she ends up not interested in.  Zootopia seemed like a good choice, so we headed out.

Much to our relief she actually did WAY better then we could have imagined.  She sat quietly and watched for most of the movie, until about 20 minutes left and then she lost interest.  She got wiggly and wanted to walk around and talk.  We ended up cutting our losses and just left...which we had in our heads we were probably going to have to do anyways.  We missed the end of the movie...which she didn't care about but Joe and I had actually gotten into the movie and wanted to know how it ended. I guess we will have to rent it when it comes out.
All of this got me thinking about what actually worked for us and what we would have done differently...maybe this will help you, or maybe it won't but I have compiled some tips just in case:

1// Wait until just before the movie starts to take your kiddo in and have them sit.  We made the mistake of getting there super early and getting a seat, which is obviously nice but for a toddler to have to sit for longer then is necessary is just setting them up for failure.  I would suggest maybe having one parent or adult go in and grab seats if you are worried about that and then taking the kids in later.
2// One word...POPCORN!  Most places usually have those little kid packs that come with some sort of a drink, popcorn and then a treat (in our case it was fruit snacks) and it all comes in a little carrying case for the child.  She felt so special to have her own and it kept her occupied eating away for awhile!
3// Lovies...A blanket, stuffed animal, etc. Ellie still has a pacifier we try to only let her use at bedtime, but I grabbed it for the movie just in case.  She only used it for a bit, which kept her quite, but she basically ate her popcorn for the entire movie.  I can't blame her, that stuff is super addicting! I also packed her little back pack with some quite toys...little lizards and frogs that she likes to play with, along with her pacifier and blanket and let her carry the back pack so she felt special.
4// Try and pick a movie you think your toddler will actually like. I know this one seems like a no brainer, but it is kind of important.  Ellie loves animals...more specifically, forest animals, which made Zootopia perfect because the main characters are a fox and a rabbit.  I am dying to see Finding Dori when it comes out, but I probably won't risk taking Ellie because she could give two craps about Finding Nemo or any other movie under, you get my point?
5// Last, but not least...desperate times call for desperate measures. Make sure you take your phone. I feel like this would be important if you had an older sibling you took with your toddler.  One that would not be too keen on just leaving with 15 minutes left in the movie because their little sister/brother can't sit still or keep quite.  So, last resort...throw hand nicely your phone over to the, no doubt, buttery little hands of your toddler, either mute or turn that volume down real low and let them watch their actual favorite videos or play their favorite apps/games.  I know, I know...worst parenting ever but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

There you have it...hopefully these are helpful to some degree and now I will share pictures of my sweet little  toddler on her first trip to the movies, because I took pictures, because that is what I do, because I like to look back on them and reminisce...which usually annoys my husband; both the picture taking and the reminiscing.  But really...he is super nice and will usually sort of pose for me.  Love you, husband!

Weekending...Easter Edition

I know it has been awhile since I have checked in here and so many things have been going on, but I will start with catching you up on our super busy Easter weekend.

Our local art museum, The Zanesville Museum of Art, offers a really cute kids program called Doodlebugs.  I had taken Ellie months ago and she was  just a little too young at the time, but since then she has really started to find a love for painting, coloring...anything with color.  I knew the time was right for us to try again.  SHE LOVED IT!  They did such an awesome job of  letting the kids explore the art and materials in their own way.  We even walked around the art museum and the teacher pointed out colors and things little kiddos would appreciate.  I love that the small town we live in still has wonderful cultural things I can expose Ellie to!

And total side note...I have to point out that I was able (sort of) to put Ellie's hair into tiny little pig tales and I about died from the cuteness!!!!

The rest of Friday we went to Columbus to visit our close friends and their brand new baby, Olivia.  Seeing and holding a tiny newborn is so surreal.  You somehow completely forget just how small they are!!!

We took Ellie to her first ever Easter egg hunt at a local church.  We met a few friends and my mother-in-law came to join in on the fun. This was also my first time at a community egg hunt and I was completely overwhelmed... SO MANY PEOPLE.  Luckily they had it sectioned off by age and we were in the 0-2 and one parent could enter the hunting area with your child...thank goodness because Ellie got semi-overwhelmed when all the kids and parents came hurrying towards the middle at the same time!
Over all it was fun and a nice experience, although I think we will just do one at home next year.

Later in the day a group of us went to one of those paint and sip classes for a friends birthday. I have been to several but I feel like this was my favorite by far...more my style. It was put on by Kelly at Girl Upcycled Studio and she has tons of different classes and styles. We painted on wood pallets and used chalk paint...which I am in love with both right now. Her studio is super cute and the class was really great too. I would highly recommend checking her out if you are interested. And because I am kind of proud of my ya go:
But in all seriousness...this was all her design and she walks you step by step so you don't feel lost or incapable of creating something you like.

Easter!! It was so cute to see Ellie excited about her Easter basket. We got her several books, a dvd, playdoh, a few other random things a little bit of candy because you can't really have an Easter basket without some, right!?!

After breakfast we headed to Joe's moms house to celebrate.  She had made a yummy lunch and then we headed outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather. We set up a little Easter egg hunt in the front yard and then made our way to the park.  I can't remember an Easter Sunday in a while that we had such beautiful weather.

Phew, tons of pictures!

That was our very busy, but we had so much fun and feel so blessed.  I hope everyone had an amazing Easter weekend too!!
