Thoughts For Thursday...Toddler Hair

First of all I have to say a giant THANK YOU to anyone and everyone that shared or read my last blog post about the apartments. I ended up getting over 100 emails with interest and we quickly got them rented.  Again, thank you so very much!!!!

And now on to my random thoughts for Thursday about my toddler's hair (or lack of hair). When I was pregnant and found out we were having a little girl I had all of these visions of braiding her hair, putting it into little pony tails and having endless amounts of bows.
When she was born she had very little hair...which is pretty normal, although I have a friend whose son was born with a ridiculous amount of hair and I secretly wished Ellie had just a little bit of his.
As she got older, she still had very little hair. I still threw headbands on the poor gal making sure everyone knew my baby was a girl. Her first birthday came and went and still...hardly any hair.  As she neared two I slowly realized this might be a blessing in disguise...with no hair to mess with it eliminated a battle every morning to brush and style her hair. This little girl knows what she wants so there was no doubt she would be particular when it came to her hair.
Now here we are at a little over two years old and she is FINALLY starting to get some hair...not a lot, but some.  I was right, she cares a lot about what we do or don't do with it. For example, when she gets out of the bath and we try and dry her hair with a towel and it looks all messy...she HATES it!! She will make a mad face and be upset until I brush it down.

Luckily she will sit very still and let me brush her hair...and I am so excited to say that we have officially hit the point where we can put her hair into a little ponytail...not all of her hair of course, and it is the cutest/most ridiculous thing EVER.

I know I didn't really get much hair until I was closer to three, so I am fully expecting her hair to slowly make it's appearance but I am so excited at the little amount we have to work with already. I am sure I will read this post in two years and curse myself for wishing hair into our lives...especially when she is screaming as I try and get a brush thru it...but whatever, I still can't wait to braid her soft hair someday soon!!!

Downtown Zanesville Apartments

You may have seen this post previously....but I am re-posting again!  Both of these amazing apartments are back up for rent.  A little over a year ago when we rented them for the first time they went quick, so if you are interested let me know. Take a look:
Original post with some modifications:

My dad purchased a building in downtown Zanesville years ago and turned half of the upstairs into a beautiful art studio for my mom and her artist partner.  I have been in love with this building since then…so much, in fact, that we had our wedding in the downstairs.
Since then, he has transformed the other half of the upstairs into two STUNNING apartments.
Obviously this building holds so many memories for my family which is why I am super excited to share this with you guys.  I jokingly (sort of ) told my husband we should sell our house and move down there…they are that gorgeous.  If you are looking for an apartment or know someone that is…you need to look at these!

Let me take you on a little tour so you can see for yourself.

The front the of building is just as beautiful as the inside…and it sits right next door to Zak's. For those that don’t know, Zak’s is a restaurant and bar that has amazing margaritas and great food. I mean, you can walk over, have a drink, eat some good food and then walk on home…doesn’t get better then that!
Front of the Building…the entrance to the apartments is the far left door.

The hallway and steps that lead upstairs are even pretty…the exposed brick and exposed beams in the ceiling, so cool

The first apartment you will be touring is 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.
View from the front door.

The kitchen and living area are complete open concept with hardwood floors, high and beautiful ceilings, and the kitchen is high quality and amazing! There is a crazy amount of cabinet space for an apartment like this and the cabinets themselves are beautiful…plus they have that slow closing ability (I am sure there is a technical term for this) so they don’t slam shut ever…so nice!

Both bedrooms are a nice size with a full bath and closet in both.

There is also a half bath with a washer/dryer hook up in a huge room that could also be used for storage, or your bike, so you can bike to all the great things downtown has to offer. I mean, seriously…how nice is all of that space?!?!

Moving on to the second apartment which is a 1 bedroom 1 1/2 bath.
The kitchen and living space are open concept just like the other apartment.  The kitchens also have all of the same cabinets, countertops and stainless steal appliances.
cameraapril3 027
Same beautiful high ceilings with amazing lighting that actually shines the light upward so you don’t feel like you are in a spot light.
cameraapril3 031
Nice large sink with garbage disposal (obviously super important!) , and gorgeous quartz countertops. (The same in both apartments)
cameraapril3 036
Built in microwave and amazing gas stove top and oven. (again, same thing in the other apartment too)
cameraapril3 035
The living space, bedroom and kitchen area all have the beautiful high ceilings and hardwood flooring.

The bedroom is very spacious with a full bath and walk in closet.

You guys, these pictures don’t even do them justice. If  you know anyone or are someone that would be interested in renting these beautiful spaces you can email me and I can get you in to actually see them in person. (
Besides being beautiful, the location is pretty cool as well. As I mentioned, you would be neighbors with some pretty talented artists (Studio 202)in the same building…and you are also surrounded by tons more cool artists and studios downtown which you can find here. The first Friday of every month there is actually an Art Walk and you would literally just have to walk out your front door to be involved!
Other then the restaurant I mentioned earlier (Zak’s) there are also several other pretty amazing restaurants too. The Treehouse is a really cool coffee shop and also has amazing food and is only about a block away. Next door to that is a sweet little bakery with delicious treats called Four Turns Baking Co.   The Old Markethouse Inn is another great place to grab a drink and some good food and it is also only a couple of blocks away. Another little place to grab some food that is really close is Dooleys on Market.
As if that all wasn’t plenty of great things to do right in your backyard there is also a pretty great gym right next door that offers personal training, classes and more called Schimmel Fitness. I know my mom loves having it so close to her studio and utilizes the proximity every single day.  I  mean a gym literally next door to you is pretty great!!!
As  you can tell, I am extremely passionate about how fabulous and amazing these apartments are. Spread the word and let me know if you have any questions at

What's Hap-"Pinning" Wednesday: I'm Fancy

My hair...oh my hair.
It has always been such a defining thing for me, ever since I decided to get it cut like Joey McIntyre from New Kids On The Block back in 4th grade.  That actually happened and I have proof. (sorry it is blurry...or maybe i'm not)
Just in case you are confused...I am on the left, and the real Joey McIntyre is on the right...just in case you got confused.

See...not terrible...not awesome, but not totally terrible. (I just keep telling myself this)  There were actually a few friends that followed me on this "trend" so it had to have been ok, right?
At any hair has always been something I take a lot of pride in and enjoy. Back in high school I started highlighting my own hair along with my friends hair using that Revlon Frost and Glow kit you can buy at the drugstore...the kind that comes with a cap and you have to pull your hair thru the tiny holes with a metal poker thing...I might be scarred from that, it was kind of painful! Anyone else use that kit...I am fairly positive it is still around.
I have also had my hair super dark/black, super blonde, super orange, super sunset colored...oranges, purple-ish, browns, yellows---all in one hair style. hair has been thru a lot. I was always pretty willing to try the latest style or color, although after the Joey McIntyre thing I resisted the urge to go super short ever again.
At this point in my life I am starting to see gray...and I am talking about my hair. Yes...I am 35 and my hair has a significant amount of grays that love rearing their ugly heads.  To save money I started dying my own hair with salon grade hair dye.  I am totally fine with the dark really is very cost effective and doesn't take that much time for me to throw on my roots, but I love dimension to my hair. I like when there are several colors going looks more natural in my opinion. After much research (thank you pinterest and youtube) I found several inspiration pics. I took them to my amazing hair stylist, Tina and we went to work.
I told her I wanted to still be able to dye my own roots to save money so I only wanted to lighten my ends and some of the midshaft of my hair. She totally understood me, which is always so nice in a hair stylist.
Here are the pics I took in for her to see what I wanted:
The lob, or long bob is the new HOT hair style for 2015! As seen on celebrities like Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian and Nicole Dobrev, This is a great tutorial for styling your lob in to gorgeous, loose waves!:
Blonde balayage brown balayage Short bob:
So some would call this balyage or ombre...either way I just wanted it to look more natural and not super streaky or a huge difference in the colors.
This was my before:

My during...such a cool technique of teasing/back combing my hair to get a "shattered" effect with the lightener...then using a toner to get the exact caramel color we were looking for.

And my after:

I am IN LOVE! So happy with how it turned out. If you live in the Zanesville area and are looking for a great stylist check out Tina at Style Out Loud ...she is AMAZING!

Tuesday Talk...For the Love of Dirt

Over the years I have worked in many different daycare and children's centers. I have seen and been around a ton of little toddlers.  For the most part these kids fall into two categories...the ones that can't stand dirt of any kind on them or their hands, and the ones that like dirt.
I guess I never really had an opinion on which I preferred my child to be until I realized one day she was so far in one of those categories there was no question:
This child of ours LOVES dirt!
Like more then most kids. Like to the point my husband and I sometimes talk about if it is weird how much she loves should we be worried?!?
I am not a neat freak by any stretch of the imagination and feel like when I was kid I didn't mind dirt...but Miss Ellie LOVES dirt. Like, if we go somewhere she will find any small trace of mud and scrape her little finger nails in it before I can even utter a word out to stop her.  Part of me hates this...I am constantly cleaning her up and changing her you know how hard it is to get dirt out from underneath tiny two year old finger nails???  There is a bigger part of me, however, that actually kind of loves it.  I love to see my daughter digging and playing in nature. It is super refreshing to know that she could entertain herself with a pile of rocks, mud and mulch waaaaay longer then she could with an i-pad. (for the record, it would be close because she does love herself some i-pad time too)
Let me just give you all a little glimpse into the life of Ellie and her love affair with dirt...

So yeah...our kid loves dirt, maybe more then most things, and although it can be messy and sometimes take longer to clean her up or get her to leave a good mud/mulch/rock pile...I still love every minute of it!

This past weekend seemed pretty jam packed now that I am looking back at pictures and remembering what all we actually did.  It's funny how we seem to either have a million things going on or nothing at all...there never seems to be an in between over here with the French's.
And so as to not keep your suspense level too high (I know you are dying to hear about what we did...said with heavy least I know my family is wondering!) At any is the rundown:

Ellie is in a little program at the local gymnastics center called "Diaper Daredevils" every Friday. Basically kids run around and play on all the trampolines and mats while the parents run after them and try to make sure they aren't doing anything unsafe. She loves it...and we like it so she can run off some steam.
Meanwhile Joe had a dentist appointment and I had a hair appointment.  It took some planning to get all of us where we needed to be that morning.
I plan on writing an entire post about my hair this watch for that, but for now here is fun selfie.

It was a really nice day on Saturday here in Ohio but not quite warm enough to spend a ton of time outside since Miss Ellie is just finally getting over a cold. We wanted to do something fun so we decided to head to COSI in Columbus. Although it is a little pricey in my opinion, they have an amazing area for kiddos 7 and under.  Ellie LOVES it and we were so preoccupied that I did not take a single picture while we were there.  After COSI we went and had lunch at a famous diner called Tommy's Diner just west of downtown Columbus.  It was so cute and the food was delicious. I had never been before but apparently it is very well known.

And as it always goes, if we are looking she is not...if she is looking, we are not. I was just thankful my mother-in-law thought to even snap a picture or else I would have had nothing to show of the day!!
We usually try and meal plan on Sundays and do our grocery we accomplished that and then the rest of the day was super chill.  We played with Ellie outside for awhile. That kid loves being outside. She loves the dirt and rocks and would stay outside all day if we let her. (unfortunately it was just a tad too chilly to let her stay out too long) As you can see, for some reason she thinks dragging her old Bumpo seat out and playing with it is hilarious....whatever works I guess!

That was pretty much our weekend in a nutshell. Hope all of you had an amazing weekend too and an even better week to come...which you should since you already survived Monday, am I right!?!?!
