Oh Hey Friday…Pure Random Nonsense

It’s Friday, which means I get to list 5 random things that have no specific tie to each other if I want to. I love me some lists, especially if they don’t make sense.  This Friday is just that kind of day…nothing is making sense, maybe I need like 48 hours of pure deep sleep, or 48 margaritas made with the finest tequila.  Either way…this list still remains random!

I’m linking up:

Here are 5 things I have been digging lately, in no specific order.

1// This book: Somerset by Leila Meacham.  I have absolutely loved her other two books, Roses and Tumbleweed, and this book is no different.  It is sort of like a Gone With the Wind epic story spanning many years…it is one of those that leaves me reading late into the night and my husband begging for me to turn off the light.  Go get it, read it and let me know what you think.

2// Pizza Cutter: I warned you this list would be super random…but hear me out!  I have turned to this kitchen tool as the perfect thing to cut up toddler food.  I use it on everything for Ellie…sandwiches, quesadillas, waffles, meatless meatballs…it makes it so easy to slice up everything into the perfect size for her little fingers.  I am sure I am not the first person to think of this, but in case you haven’t tried it…you’re welcome!

3//These Shoes:

I am dying to purchase these for Ellie!!! How cute are they…so tiny and perfect..and the color! I don’t know why I didn’t just buy the darn things when I saw them the first time.  I am going to measure little ladies tiny feet and figure out her size and check these off my want list soon!!

4// These Bags: I have been on the hunt for the perfect bag to use as a diaper bag/purse/carry my good camera…Mary poppins type bag.  I came across both of these on different blogs and love both.  They are equally kind of pricey…around $250…but a girl can dream!!!

Lily Jade Madeline in Brandy Bag This is marketed as a diaper bag…but how cute is it??

Kelly Moore Bag in Libby

I love this bag…I love the color choices (the orange is beautiful too), I love the organization inside of it…love it!

5//  This beautiful hair color:

As you may know I am obsessed with watching beauty vloggers on YouTube and  Danna Ann has quickly become one of my current faves.  I have fallen in love with her hair color.  I realize it is blonde…but it is like the perfect honey blonde and I am hoping this can be recreated on my hair soon?!?!

And if you love it as much as me you can watch the video below and check out exactly how she gets it colored as well as see her favorite hair products, which happen to be a lot of my faves also!

There you have it…my 5 super random things for Friday. I hope everyone has a great weekend…and if you have no plans, go get the book I suggested and have yourself a nice little Saturday reading and reading and reading…cause you won’t be able to put it down!

Beauty Wednesday…On a Budget

Since staying home with Ellie and managing our family on one income I have made it a mission to find drug store beauty products to replace some of my high  end ones.  Spending a ton of money on my face just doesn’t seem like a top priority.  Let me preface this with the fact that my husband knows how important makeup is to me and thinks there is nothing wrong with buying makeup WITH IN REASON…even high end brands, so I don’t want anyone thinking he is “making” me buy cheap makeup. (oh the horror)  Of course, he isn’t as familiar with products as I am and I know drug store brands can often times have really great products.

Sometimes there seriously is just nothing that compares to the high end…MAC painterly pot…nothing like it in my opinion!  Sometimes I manage to find things that are just as good, if not better…and honestly, it has been really fun trying to find good products at a lower cost.

Let me share some of those finds and I will tell you what high end product they currently replace.

1// Yes to Grapefruit Repair & Correct CC Cream in Light:  I love me some CC creams!  For those that aren’t familiar with them ,CC stands for Color Correcting.  They are used to brighten, hydrate, protect (SPF) and even out your skin…correct any discoloration on your face.  With that said, this stuff isn’t a miracle so if you have major discoloration or sun spots this won’t make them disappear…however, it will even out your complexion and help to soften everything.  It is tinted and I use it as my foundation on most days.  I don’t love really heavy foundation, so this is perfect for me because it is more like a tinted moisturizer.  I apply this with a brush but you could use your fingers…I just think a brush gives it more of an airbrush finish. I have some redness to my cheeks and a few other “spots” on my face and this stuff seriously evens everything out and its hydrating which my skin craves in the cold months!  I really do love this stuff, and it doesn’t break me out at all.

Replaces: IT Cosmetics CC Cream.

2// Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Sandstorm: I really needed a good powder to help set the CC cream and to add a tiny bit more coverage and I heard about this stuff via a youtube video.  I really like this powder…it stays in place all day and stays matte all day.  I have combination skin, so being super oily isn’t a huge problem for me…but I think even if you did this stuff would keep you shine free all day.  I just apply it with a fluffy brush after my CC cream.

Replaces: Bare Escentuals powder. (I won’t say the Rimmel is as good.  Bare Escentuals gives more coverage but for my purposes Rimmel is working great)

stay matte

3//NYX Blush in Pinch:  I am a fan of pink/peach blush with a touch of gold and this blush is exactly that.  The pigment is great and it lasts all days.

Replaces: Nars in Orgasm…I love the Nars blush but it is sooooo pricey.  This NYX blush is so close in color that I really couldn’t believe it.  Plus it is so much more affordable.

4// Maybelline Master Concealer in Light:  This is marketed as a camouflaging concealer and full coverage.  I currently use IT cosmetics bye bye under eye and LOVE it…but I haven’t gotten around to repurchasing it so I thought I would try something more affordable.  I like this stuff…I don’t think I love it, but it is pretty darn good.  It covers nicely and stays put all day, my only dislike would be the consistency.  It is a little more dry then I prefer…I like a creamy concealer for under my eyes.  I still have been using it and like it, so it would be a great affordable alternative if you are in the market.  I am still planning on repurchasing my bye bye under eyes though.

Replaces: IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye (for now)

There you have it…four affordable beauty products to replace some high end favorites.  Do you guys have any drug store brand products that you have fallen in love with???

Little Miss Bookworm

This child of mine has found a love for books and I could not be happier. She could sit like this forever.

ellie reading

I don’t know if she has more fun pulling all of the books off of the shelf or actually looking at them…but I love it either way.  It is the sweetest darn thing in the world to look over and see her quietly flipping thru books. I am constantly putting all of the books back on the shelf because she loves pulling them all down and exploring…and it just isn’t as fun if they aren’t actually on the shelf!

As I have mentioned before I have a slight obsession with children’s books so this new love of hers has only fed my obsession.  Sorry hubs!

camerafeb1 049

Oh, and she must cross her feet when she gets super serious about reading…duh!

We do actually read to her…a lot…but she is more into the browsing books by herself thing so we will go with that for however long she likes it!  Board books are also her thing, paper pages are only temptation to rip the suckers out and then rip into smaller pieces…something so amazing about the crinkle of paper. We give her magazines to satisfy that little obsession of hers, keeps her busy a’rippin for a long time. So, board books it is…but I am very excited for when she can look at paper books because this momma has a million other books just a waiting for those days!

Do your kiddos have any favorites that we (ok me…I'm obsessed) need to purchase and add to our collection?!?!

Oh Hey Friday…Cooped Up Edition

It’s Friday…and we actually have super fun plans tonight…thank GOD!!!!!! I don’t know about anyone else but this brutally cold air and snow has left us feeling stir crazy. Being stuck in the house for days and days can get pretty boring so I have compiled a list of things you could do to pass the time:

1// Play peek-a-boo: Because why not.

camerafeb1 031

camerafeb1 032

2// Watch someone else shovel the driveway…Because it’s better then doing it yourself, and when you have a crazy dog that loves the snow it can be pretty entertaining.

3//Watch crappy/awesome reality TV…Because you can live vicariously thru the train wrecks on TV who apparently have more active and fun lives then you right now…plus most of them live in sunny climates so that is always nice to imagine yourself in the sun.

4// Attempt to remove ugly wallpaper…Because when you get this bored anything sounds like a good idea. And that there my friends took two of us ONE hour…this is going to take FOR-EV-ER!!!

camerablog2 001

5// Drink…Because when all else fails…and you have tried removing wallpaper…and you forget what fresh air feels like…just start drinking. Preferably some fruity number that will make you feel like you are on the beach…or a Corona, that would probably do the trick too.

There you have it…I hope your weekend is fun and sunny!!

Today I am linking up with these lovely ladies…go check them out to read more fun stuff.

Beauty Wednesday

I have always loved nail art.

Back in grade school I would paint my nails with crazy polka dots…each nail a different color, sparkles, fish tank scenes…anything I could get my hands on or any idea I could come up with I did it.

As I have gotten older, I still love nails…I own waaaaay too much nail polish, and I continue to purchase more (there is always a new beautiful color that needs to be on my nails…duh) After college I even went to school and got my nail technician license. Although I haven’t used it much, I LOVED every second of that school!!!

The nail art world is seriously exploding…there was even a tv show competition called “Nailed It” recently that was all about nail art.  Truthfully, with a one year old running/crawling around, I usually am lucky to throw on a single color polish with no smudges….but when I get the chance I try to do something a little more creative.

Valentine’s Day is always a fun one for me…I love pinks and reds…I love hearts…and they are all pretty easy things to fit onto your nails. However, this year I finally played around/watched YouTube tutorials/…and found some tricks I thought I would share with you.

phonefeb1 0811

Tip #1 Apply two layers of top coat:  In the past, when adding layers of artwork on my nails over polish, I had such a hard time with the white streaking when I applied the top coat…basically smearing my design, which really p*ssed me off!!! This time around I figured out that if you paint your nails the base in the case of my nails above this would be the pink and red…and then paint a layer of top coat BEFORE you start with the white nail art, it’s like magic. You let those layers dry then apply the nail art and then apply a SECOND coat of top coat to seal everything together…and magically it does not smear or streak!!!  Game changer for me!

camerablog1 002

Tip #2 Use Seche Vite Top Coat:  Speaking of top coats…you guys I cannot even say enough great things about this top coat.  I talked about it in this post already. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  We used it in school and I fell in love then. It is fast drying, which is so perfect for anyone that doesn’t have 15 minutes to let their nails dry (no one) and it also is thick and leaves your nails looking like they were professionally done. I seriously always get asked if my nails are fake, or have shellac on them. Perfect top coat…try it!

Tip #3  Take advantage of all the amazing nail art products out there: There are so many products out there to make doing small designs easier.  For the look above I used the Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in White.  It made doing the hearts and dots so much easier then using a regular polish brush.  There are a million other products out there that I need to try, but just check out the nail polish aisle at your local drugstore and you will find so much fun stuff.

camerablog1 001

I hope these tips help motivate or at least make you less intimidated to try nail art. It is so fun…so easy…and ends up looking really pretty.

Good luck!!!

Finger Food Fun…

Bottles(or nursing) every 4 hours…no big deal, I figured that out.  Add in some pureed baby food every so often just for them to start trying things…I got the hang of that too.  I made some of my own, bought other organic things and we were good.  She didn’t start with rice cereal because I read a lot…maybe too much…and a ton of different sources and other moms said it can give babies gas so start with avocados or bananas or some low allergen food. We started with avocados… figured that stage out eventually.

But let me tell you…the half puree, half finger food, still drinking bottles every 4ish hours…that stage drove me bat sh*t cray cray. For some reason I could not wrap my mind around what worked the best…when to give her what, how much to give her…how big of chunks.  I knew she was supposed to experiment and explore and that includes squishing and playing with her food…I didn’t like that either. Don’t get me wrong, chubby little fingers squishing food is pretty cute. cameranov3 030

cameranov3 026

And as she (and we) got more comfortable with finger foods, it was so cute to watch her feed herself. Scoop things up and shove it in her little two teeth mouth. Unfortunately…spaghetti is one of her favorites, and the messiest.

cameradec2 139

phonefeb1 067

But after the cuteness factor wears off and you realize there is a giant mess with food EVERYWHERE…well that part kind of seriously sucks. Thank God for our dog/floor cleaner.
I guess I eventually figured out that half and half bull crap stage… and then we moved onto the full food and whole milk stage (good bye formula…hello more money each month, that junk is EXPENSIVE).  This stage is a little easier for us, not as convenient as throwing a bottle in your diaper bag but waaaay better then the beginning of finger foods.

The thing I notice the most about this stage in her eating development is that it requires waaaaay more planning on my part.  It also calls dramatic attention to my own diet.  I am constantly trying to come up with new healthy things for her to eat and then realize I need to eat healthier too…blah! But seriously, gone are the days of bottles and puffs, now I have to either pack food for her or make sure where ever we are going there are things for her to eat too.  This is a little tricky because she still isn’t eating meat (may never…not sure yet, save that topic for another lengthy post) and I try to feed her healthy things and sometimes restaurants don’t have healthy options. Either way…I think the husband and I are finally getting the hang of this whole eating thing for her.

It is so crazy how all of this happens within a year…so much change, and she is getting so big, but it is all exciting and never boring.   She is in the 97% for weight so we must be doing something right.  Anyone else have a hard time with any of these feeding stages?!?!?

At least she is happy and loves meal time and I guess that is all I can ask for.

Weekend Shenanigans

Alright, alright I have been a serious slacker in the blogging department…it happens.  Some weeks (or months) I cannot seem to find the time or creativity to post consistently.  I want to get better with this.  I actually really enjoy writing, and I love recapping the things we do around the French household. It is super fun to read back later and see what we were up to.  I also know I have some family members that like to read and see pictures of little miss Ellie, so I need to get better about posting…I will try!

Valentine’s weekend…I love Valentine’s Day, not because of gifts or things like that…I just really love love!  I think it so great to have a day dedicated to telling everyone that you love how special they are…it doesn’t even have to be about romantical things (I realize that is not a real word, but I like it so I use it) You can send your sister a Valentine…which I totally should have done…or your best friend, or mother-in-law…again, totally should have done all of those things…LOVE  YOU GUYS!

With the husband and I…our favorite, borderline lame, thing to do is have some drinks, have a good meal and snuggle up on the couch and watch movies…so that is pretty much exactly what we did.  We made taco dip, drank some beers/girly drinks, and watched TV.  We do love getting out for a date night here and there, but this particular night is always CRAZY busy out at restaurants so we prefer to avoid that and just stay in with each other, and this sweet little lady.

camerafeb1 008

Daddy got her a special Mickey Valentine…and she loved it, of course!

That was pretty much our super fun weekend…Valentine’s Day…and we celebrated Ellie’s cousin Sloane's 1st birthday…they are a month apart and are so cute together.

We survived the massive white out we had here on Saturday, but the weather for sure made it a much easier choice to stay in the house and never leave unless we had to!!!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Sparkle and Shine It’s Birthday Time!

I am soooooo late to the game on this one (like a month), but Ellie turned one last month and I HAVE to post all about it!!!!

camerajan1 015

First of all, I cannot believe she is already one year old…everyone tells you time flies and I tried so hard to enjoy every single moment…but it still went too fast.  Every month leading up to this was so much fun and it just keeps getting better with all of the new things she learns and does, we are so excited to see what this next year brings!

STATS: weight…24 lbs 8 oz (97%!!!!)   height…29.5 inches(63%…so at least her height is catching up to her weight!)

This little girl is so happy…she crawls and gets into everything.  She only has 2 teeth but that doesn’t stop her from being the best little eater there ever was.  She loves meatless meatballs, green beans for days, black beans, applesauce, peaches, hummus….she seriously eats pretty much anything we throw her way. She loves Mickey/Minnie and lambie from Doc McStuffins.  She has recently started to have a love for books…she will sit quietly and pull every single book off the shelf and flip thru them and look at the pictures. This is the cutest dang thing ever…I have a mild obsession with children's books so this new love of hers also makes this mama pretty happy!!  She is constantly babbling…I think we are going to be in trouble once she actually starts talking cause she has a lot to say and may never stop, and i can’t deny she gets it honest…poor husband will have a lot of females in the house chatting him to death! She says “moma” “dadada” “baby” “hi” and “bye”…and she points at everything!

phonedecjan3 060

Now let’s talk party! I was super excited to plan and make things for her first birthday party but I also let myself get stressed out about making it perfect.  In reality a first birthday party is more for the parents then anyone…I mean Ellie probably won’t remember anything about it other then what she see’s in pictures.
I for sure let the pressure of seeing all of those amazing pictures on pinterest with the perfectly matching paper straws and decorations get the best of me.

Who the heck has time or money for all that!!!

My husband quickly reminded me what was important…getting everyone together to celebrate our little girl, and the food…of course the food, duh!

So I quickly refocused on the important things and the party was perfect.  Tons of family, tons of great food (hot dog bar) and Ellie had a blast!

I made her tutu, onesie and birthday crown, and I loved how they turned out!

camerajan2 030

I love this picture because Joe taught her how to hold up one finger to show how old she is…and being the little ham that she is, she showed everyone right before we sang to her.  My love for this picture is because my grandma’s hand is in the corner showing her “one” too and I think it is so precious!!

camerajan2 058

The cupcake…decorated by daddy with love:)

camerajan2 052

camerajan2 072

She could have cared less about her cupcake…no big cake smash for her.

camerajan2 085

Face timing aunt Molly (she lives in Colorado and couldn’t make the party) This picture makes me sad and happy all at the same time…we miss her sooo much and wished she could have been there, but technology these days makes it so nice to stay connected so we were thankful she could still see everything happen in real time!!

camerajan2 086

camerajan2 088

She seems so excited about her cupcake…I also made the tassels, which I loved and currently have them hanging in my office. They were so easy…made out of plastic table cloths!!

camerajan2 101

While she was opening her gifts she discovered everyone was watching her…and she started clapping and loved the fact that everyone laughed when she did this, so she she kept doing it.  She seriously is such a little ham and loves being the center of attention…uggg!

camerajan2 107

And then there are these three…Mattyn, Ellie and Sloane…all born within a month of each other..second cousins…little turds.

camerajan2 116

Not an easy picture to take…they obviously don’t like sitting still

camerajan2 117

And then Ellie sat on Mattyn’s head..haha

camerajan2 118

Don’t worry no one was hurt! They have so much fun together when we can actually get them all together, and I know it will only get better as they all get older!

camerajan2 124

My favorite part of the decorations was her wall of monthly pictures.  These were so fun to take each month and soooo awesome to look at all together to see how much she has changed over the first year. Her party couldn’t have gone any better and we feel so lucky to have so many people that care about Ellie as much as we do!
