Numb fingers=lack of blogging

Hello, hello hello…I am still alive and well (sort of) and pregnant.

I wanted to write a quick blog post  to briefly fill you in on the pregnancy and why I haven’t been blogging…and to put up some pictures.

I am 33 weeks and I would say within the last two weeks my body has really been struggling…I have some pretty crazy symptoms that I never knew happened sometimes during pregnancy but apparently they are normal.

The biggest/worst, and reason I cannot blog very often, is carpel tunnel.  My fingers are numb 24 hours a day and the more I use them the worse they get…so typing is really difficult.  I guess this goes away after baby comes…fingers crossed (not that I could do that right now, ha) I wear wrist braces to bed which sort of helps keep the pain from stretching up my arm…but sometimes that happens anyway.

At any rate, I could go on and on but I am really trying to stay positive! With that being said, I have felt baby girl kick and move around so much more which has been amazing.  We can’t wait to meet her.

And here are some pictures from over the last couple of months…hopefully I can try and blog more often but if not I will at least try and put up pictures every now and then. I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving!!

I have been so bad about taking a picture every week so this is the last one I have…

My sister took some maternityish pictures for us, so here are a few:

My mom came and helped paint some of baby girls furniture.  I saw this idea on pinterest and I love how it turned out.  We painted old furniture, placed lace over the drawers, spray painted over the lace…

Peeled the lace off before it dried…

and it turned out so pretty.  We have pink glass knobs for it as well.

I will hopefully post some nursery pics when I get those taken and the room is all finished.

That is all I can type out for now…hope everyone has a great week!

Saturday Ramblings

First…I want to thank everyone for the kind and encouraging comments concerning my last post about pregnancy…and how I don’t love it.  Reading that other people feel the same way as me makes me feel SO. MUCH. BETTER. So thank you!!!

And with that being said I have a few pregnancy updates for you.

I am officially 25 weeks…and don’t mind (or be jealous) that my phone case matches my outfit:

25 weeks 2

I am officially starting to swell…and wear compression stockings. They seem to help for the most part, but those suckers are hotter than the hinges of hell!!!

Last thing dealing with pregnancy…I passed my glucose test!!! For those that haven’t been pregnant or had to take this test, you basically drink this super sugary drink that tastes like flat orange pop and an hour later the nurse tests your blood to see if you were able to handle that sugar. If you fail, you might have gestational diabetes ( I think they make you re-take it again to make sure before they diagnose you).  Anyway, I passed…thank the good lord cause I love sugar, and if my body wasn’t able to handle it then this pregnancy really would get worse!!! I am so happy sugar is on my side…watch out candy corn, I am coming for you:)

In other ramblings on this lovely Saturday…my husband gave me my birthday gifts early and because they are great I need to share them. He ordered them online and when they came early he couldn’t stand waiting to give them to me for another week, which I think is cute. At any rate here they are:

The first is a subscription to US Weekly!!!! I have been hinting to my family for what seems like the last 10 years that this would be a perfect gift…and easy. No one ever got it for me. I LOVE this stupid magazine and always want to buy it every single week, but control myself because it is so darn expensive without a subscription. Well now I will be so up to date on Hollywood gossip…and I CAN’T WAIT!!

The second gift is a super cool coffee table for our living room. The one we used to use Joe has had for a long time and it was old and on the verge of falling apart. For some reason I have a tendency to sit down at our couch and always pull the table closer to the couch so I can reach my food/drink/books/computer…I just need the table to be closer so I don’t have to reach. I especially do this now that I am prego cause it is so uncomfortable to bend over to reach anything. This annoys the crap out of Joe because I always forget to move the table back. I had mentioned getting a TV tray so that I could just use that, but he went one step further:

The beautiful coffee table ( I love the color too)

And this, my friends is why my husband is amazing and this gift is so flipping cool:

no 014

Yup…if pulls up toward to the couch so I don’t have to pull the entire table to me. It’s like a coffee table and a TV tray all in one. Who even knew they made this!?!?!

I am in love with this gift.

Have a good rest of your weekend!!!

If I can just be honest…

Pregnancy has not been my favorite thing thus far.

I feel guilty for even thinking that thought let alone putting it out there for all to read…but this post is all about being honest (so is my blog) and so I have to tell you a few things.

As long as I can remember there has always been the idea out there that I may never be able to have my own children. I have a heart condition that is hereditary and I have had since birth. Every year we would go to the cardiologist and get a check up and as I got older they seemed to caution more and more that pregnancy was the hardest thing on a women's body and heart, and it may be something my heart and body cannot withstand.

With that being said, when the doctors told me I should be ok getting pregnant I was obviously ecstatic…and a little nervous. My heart seems to be hanging in there…my body, on the other hand, seems to be hating pregnancy!

I am so thankful to have gotten pregnant as fast and easy as we did, I am so thankful that our baby girl seems to be doing great and is healthy…I am so thankful to have an amazing, supportive husband who has been beyond great during this pregnancy…I am so excited to meet our baby and am already so in love with her.

I do not like being pregnant. The things I had always heard about aren’t even the things that make me uncomfortable. Like, stretch marks…I could give two shits if I get them. I already have a few on my hips and seem to be getting more lately.  My belly seems in the clear right now, but honestly…if I get a few stretch marks on my stomach I am ok with that. Its not like I have string bikinis waiting to be worn again…or belly shirts. My tankini and full length shirts will cover any stretch marks I get and I am ok with that :)

Gingivitis/bleeding gums: WHAT??? I had never heard of this before but apparently it happens while pregnant….and my gums bleed like a stuffed pig every time I brush and especially when I floss, and they are sore.  FUN FUN.

My hips and lower back…I walk around like I am 80. It seriously takes me about 30 seconds every time I get up to let my hips stabilize before I start to walk, and even then that first step is super hit or miss whether or not pain will shoot thru my back.  Ugg.

Shaving my legs…starting to become a chore. Bending over for that long takes my breath away…things I never thought about…

My cankles…I mean ankles. At barely 24 weeks pregnant my lower legs, ankles and feet have started swelling. I had heard of this in my friends pregnancies, but it seems like they didn't have it until later in pregnancy. It is the worst…and my doctor prescribed me compression stockings (pictures later…maybe) so those should be fun to wear.

The one thing I was really looking forward to with pregnancy was to feel the baby kicking and moving…turns out I have an anterior placenta which means it is in the front and is like a sponge soaking up any movements so that I cannot feel them.  I will have to wait until she is much bigger and stronger before I will likely feel any movement…WORST! (whhhaaa, waaaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaaa)

I could keep going but you get the point…

I realize I sound like the biggest debbie downer but these are the things I think about all day so it is what I am going to write about.  It has taken me awhile to come to terms that it is ok for me to not like being pregnant.  Just because I don’t like it doesn't mean I am not excited about the baby, or love her.  I am really trying to embrace it and take it all in…it has just been so much harder than I had expected. I envy those women that think being pregnant is the best thing ever…I wish I felt that way, but I know it will all be worth it in the end.

In just a couple of month we will have a beautiful baby girl and I know every stretch mark, random cry outburst, hip pain, foot swelling…it will all be worth it once I am holding her in my arms:)

A few pictures for your viewing pleasure:

I haven’t taken my 24 week picture yet (but I will)

all 247

a few of the little precious outfits I have already bought.  I actually haven’t purchased many…probably because I can’t figure out how big she will be and I don’t want to waste money on things that won’t end up fitting her.

Last thing…we got a puppy. Stay tuned for that entire story.

6 months pregnant and a new puppy= CRAZY and EXHAUSTED

Feeling sort of blah…

Hey guys…I haven’t been feeling the best lately…still nauseas at bedtime (which means not much sleep) and some pretty consistent headaches.  Because of those fun things the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is get on my computer…which somehow makes my headaches worse.  But I wanted to put a quick post on here to update you on the the bump and a few other random things.

Speaking of, please forgive the randomness…I’m pregnant so my brain sort of skips all over the place and I can’t seem to gather my thoughts…I actually may have had that problem prior to pregnancy, but who’s really keeping track?!?!

So enough with the Debbie downer’s and on to the the random photos I took this past week…to fill you in on what we have been up to over here:

Got my hair did…darker…I wasn’t loving the super light streaks in my hair…excuse the creepy eyes.

zz 001

We ate lunch at Red Robin…not super healthy…but super good! They even have a veggie burger option for any of their burgers which is perfect for me!

Also, I am a sucker for ranch…like I base which restaurants we can go to on whether or not they have good ranch…and Red Robin has AMAZING ranch!!!

zz 003

And of course I made my poor, sweet husband pose for a picture at lunch, he can’t wait for this baby to be born so I have someone else to take pictures of :)

zz 002

Some might say I am obsessed with taking pictures of Joe when one of the cats is sitting on him…I say obsessed might be a little much.

I mean how can I not take this picture, just the most precious thing EVER! (again Joe really can’t wait for this baby so I have another subject to photograph)

zz 008

And last, but not least…my 14 week pregnancy picture:

Notice the dark hair…I pretty much love it.  I’m pretty much not loving my lack of a mid summer tan…need to work on that!

We plan on going sometime soon for an early ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby…stay tuned for that news! We are beyond excited to find out if it will be a little baby girl or a little baby boy!!!!!

As cliché as it sounds, we will be totally happy with either, but just really want to know!

Hopefully my headaches start to subside and my nausea gives a little so I can get on this darn computer more often and fill you in on other fun things in our life.  Have a great week!!!

Joe to the Rescue

As most of you know I work for a school…a preschool.  Half of our students are on the autism spectrum and the other half of our students are typical developing students.  I tell you this because I think it is important to help paint the picture of what I asked my husband to walk in to.  Not only is entertaining a bunch of 3-5 year olds sometimes difficult, but when you throw in kids with autism, it makes it that much more challenging.

Our school was in the full swing of summer camp and we had a cancellation from the Fire Department last minute due to the equipment they use for presentations not working.  So…I called Joe to see if he would be willing to come to the school and show the kids his equipment, gear, etc. He had done this one other time for us last year so he did know what he was getting in to.

Of course, he said yes…because he is awesome…and the kids loved him!!! He did such an amazing job talking on their level, keeping their interest, being goofy to make them laugh. It seriously melted my heart and made me that much more happy to be having a baby with this guy:)

As promised I took pictures so you could see how much fun the kids and Joe had:

z 006

There you have them…Firefighter Joe did not disappoint!!!

And another thing that happened last week was that I reached 13 weeks in my pregnancy…yay!  Here is a picture:

z 017

This baby is GROWING!!! By the end of the day my belly seems so much bigger then when I wake up in the morning, so strange!  I have been feeling pretty good overall, for sure not as tired. I can feel my muscles and ligaments stretching in my stomach and hips which is kind of weird and leaves me feeling sort of sore.

The only thing I seem to crave on a consistent basis over this entire pregnancy so far has been pancakes.  For some reason they always sound good (honestly they always did before I got pregnant too) but I guess I talk about them more often now, and usually have them once a weekend :)

We go to the doctor tomorrow for a checkup, and then again at 18 weeks for our big ultrasound where we can find out the gender…but we have heard of a place close by where you can go at 14 weeks and they will do a quick gender reveal ultrasound.  The downside to doing that is that insurance won’t cover the extra ultrasound so you pay out of pocket, but it isn’t really too bad…around $70…and they have a cute room where family can all come and sit on couches and find out with you.

We are currently leaning towards that option rather than waiting for the 18 week ultrasound…but we aren’t for sure and haven’t made the appointment yet.

We have decided to find out the gender though.  Joe would be totally fine not knowing and being surprised, and I thought I could possibly do that at first.  I totally understand why people choose that route and can imagine it is pretty special to find out at the birth, but for me….my personality, I really need to know.

I am a planner. I sort of feel like there is already so many unknowns with a new baby that by eliminating one of those it helps calm my anxieties and nerves a little.  Maybe I am crazy…hell I don’t know, but I am super excited to find out if the baby growing inside me is a boy or girl!!! Neither of us feels certain either way…and will be happy no matter what we have (everyone always says that!) So stay tuned and I will let you know when/if we make that earlier appointment…we could know the gender as early as next week…EEEEEKKK!!!!

I have a new bathroom!

Last week I came home from work, sat in my car while the garage door opened and in the garage sat…

our toilet and sink from the downstairs bathroom!

I was so confused until I went inside and found that my amazing husband had taken it upon himself to retile the bathroom floor.  I had no idea (and I think he didn’t either) that he had any idea how to even do that.  Apparently he looked it up on the internet and then went to the store and bought supplies.

For some reason neither of us took before pictures but let me know tell you the place was a hot mess! The floor was a very old, poorly laid, stained laminate something or other…pretty bad!  The walls were a plain but dingy white. It really just needed a facelift…and Joe figured if he was going to do anything to it he was going to do it right.  I love him!

So below is the floor just after he did the first step in tiling, notice how the previous owners just painted around the toilet and sink, looks great (sarcasm):

And the final product:

n 009

I had already picked out a light grey paint so Joe just matched up the tile…I think it turned out so beautiful and I was so proud of him for just figuring it all out.

He was pretty proud of himself too, so I obviously made him get his picture taken with his work, ha! (good thing he loves me)

n 008

Doesn’t he looked so thrilled!!!

Total change of topic…

We went to a movie the other day and were the ONLY PEOPLE IN THE THEATRE.  I loved it, and made my poor husband take my picture so you guys could see how funny it looked with me just sitting there by myself.

m 001

I realize now after looking at this picture that I am a complete dork, but it seemed like a good idea at the time…and I was sad when just as Joe snapped this picture two other people walked in.  They were probably wondering what was so special that I was getting my picture taken, but oh well.

Next random thing I need to share…this bar:

m 002

Being pregnant, I have discovered I need to eat like a million small meals a day to keep my blood sugar level steady (no one wants a passed out pregnant lady) and to keep from being nauseas. I love most of the Kind bars but discovered this one the other day and had to share it with you guys. It is amazing!!!!!

I think it might be the sea salt that makes it, but whatever it is you need to go straight out and try this thing…you won’t regret it!!!

And last thing I need to share…the message board at the school I work at currently reads:

m 003

Stay tuned guys…Fireman Joe (aka, my husband) is making an appearance for the little kiddos tomorrow.  Pictures to follow :)

Bump Update

So I will try and update you on the development of the bump…but I also plan on blogging about other things that are going on in my life.  So if bump pictures aren’t for you, rest assured there will still be pictures of my cats, food, my husband not liking to have his picture taken, and many other things in my life :)

But this post is for the bump lovers…that could honestly mean so many things…but for this post it means my belly/baby.

Before you catch a glimpse of these photos I have to say I am not super comfortable posting them.  I have always looked at other blogs and love seeing the progress of their growing bumps.  For some reason, I have had a hard time with my changing body.  I feel guilty even saying that because I feel so incredibly blessed to have this baby growing inside of me…but I have to be honest, and if I am being honest…I am not loving the fact that my belly is growing, my boobs are growing (like can they really get bigger, the answer is YES) i am still tired ALOT, still have random nausea…amongst other weird and uncomfortable things.

I have a feeling that once I get a little bigger I might embrace it more…it is just this in between stage where I feel super bloated/chubby…it is 95 degrees out all of the time which makes it really hard to dress in layers, hence really hard to hide the growing bump.

BUT…with all of that being said, there is something sort of magical about looking at these pictures and actually seeing the baby/belly gradually growing.  Without sounding too cheesy, there really is something so miraculous about growing a human being inside of you…soooooo crazy!

Ok, enough rambling…I give you the bump pictures:

So there you have them…some are a little blurry, not sure why.  I started off wearing the same outfit but that slowly went out the window when I couldn’t find that shirt one day but still needed to take the picture.  Either way, you get the drift.

Enjoy (if that is what I should be saying…or be happy for your waistline…or pray for my stretching skin…or smile at how cute I am pregnant, just lie to me)

And for those people that don’t love looking at bump pictures here is a picture of me with my sweet grandma and grandpa.  This past Sunday we helped them celebrate 62 years of marriage…amazing!!!! Love them and the incredible family they created that I am so thankful to be apart of.

Other events in July

Besides being pregnant I have been up to many random things this month so far.  I thought I would fill you in on the fun things going on up in the French household.

Taco night:

the best (and easiest) dinner night EVER! We recently had a taco night and I loved every second of it…as you will see by my super dorky picture below…

July 2013 012

Yeah we actually do have this festive hat just sitting around our house…you never know when you might have a taco night?!?!

Needless to say since I could barely even get the husband to take this picture, he would NOT let me take one of him in the hat.

His loss!

At any rate, below are several pictures of the deliciousness of that night.  Since I don’t eat meat we had to cook up two different pans of goodies:

Top: Joe’s turkey burger and refried beans mixture.

Bottom: My Quorn brand meatless crumbles with taco seasoning…actually really good!

July 2013 009

The shells…heated to perfection in the oven, and flat bottomed…guys these are waaaaayyy better then the old ones with the bottom that came to a point and left no room for the stuffing's. Try them!!

July 2013 010

The rest of the good stuff:

Shredded lettuce

Mexican style cheese

Taco sauce

My salsa/ranch dip (sour cream, dry ranch dip packet, and salsa) SO GOOD

tortilla chips

July 2013 011

And finally the finished products:

July 2013 013

Joe’s… (notice the flat bottom, so smart!)

July 2013 014

I love taco night, and writing this post makes me want to have another one really soon!

Besides taco night we also celebrated the 4th of July.

Joe and several of his friends have sort of made it a tradition to watch the hot dog eating contest…so, naturally, I got the idea that we should have people over to watch this and have a hot dog bar set up too.  Joe liked the idea and so that is what we did.  Although we ate our hotdogs before watching the contest…thankfully because that contest is really disturbing to watch and pretty gross! 69 hotdogs and buns eaten in 10 minutes, blah!!!!!

July 2013 026

Pretty good spread:

Brett and Alison brought over a really delicious southwestern pasta salad

Doritos (duh, they are so good)

diced onions

diced pickles

shredded cheese

mustard, ketchup

coney sauce was over on the stove…regular and vegetarian

Nathan’s hotdogs, and the two lone veggie dogs for me.

I also made a very festive dessert:

July 2013 027

Unfortunately I didn’t remember to take a picture until after I started serving it…but you get the point.

Somehow this post has been all about food…guess I must be hungry!

I will leave you with some lovely photos that came from me being bored on the 4th after everyone left…and Joe was taking a nap so I had no one to talk to.  Obviously at times like that you take pictures of yourself…and your cats…obviously.

Is it wrong I really want to paint her nails?

July 2013 007

Oh hey…

July 2013 022

July 2013 033

And then there is me and my obnoxious 4th of July nails and makeup…

July 2013 028

July 2013 031

So there you have it…the things i have been doing this month other than being pregnant.
