Mojitos and Mike Posner

This past weekend was a long and eventful one.  I had a ton of fun but come today (Sunday) I am on complete “recover” mode.  To recap my lovely weekend let me give you a run-down on events:

Friday Night: Birthday party for my Aunt Cathy.  She LOVES the mojitos at Champs Restaurant and so the party began there.  Cake and mojitos.

The birthday girl below complete with her crown, necklace and beaming smile!

A few of us gathered at Champs celebrating.

A few mojitos and several other tasty drinks later we made our way over to The Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar (a personal favorite of mine) and had an amazing time as I always do there.  We got Cathy up on stage and sang her happy birthday as well as one of her favorite songs; Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light.  I love my family and this was just one more night that reminded me of how amazing they all are.  Several cousins, my sister and several aunts spent an entire night together (literally, they all stayed at our place)…we are all different ages but we had the best time!  I am confident this was a birthday Cathy will never forget, nor will I.

Saturday Night: Not sure if this is common knowledge yet on here or not, but I am a tiny bit obsessed with the amazing and talented Mike Posner.  He seems to only play his shows at colleges…so naturally I am forced to go to these colleges and throw myself back into the college scene so that I can enjoy Mikey in concert. I have seen him in Athens at OU already and it was amazing.  This past weekend he made his way to Muskingum College (close to where I am from) so I gathered Kelly and Chrisy  and we made our way over to the college for some good times.

Once we let ourselves get over the semi awkward fact that we were indeed the oldest folks in the room…we rocked it out with the best of them.  It was general admission so that means super crowded and many over served, space invader college kids.  Other than the space invasion (got slapped in my shoulder multiple times by a random’s boob to the point of possible bruising…also got karate chopped in the neck so that I wouldn't be in a picture, weird) we had a great time.  I think eye contact was made several times with good old Mikey P. and he may be trying to contact me soon to ask for my hand in marriage…don’t be surprised when this happens.

As if all of the previous events of the weekend weren’t enough we couldn’t resist meeting our cousin Megan out to help celebrate her birthday.  Nothing says happy birthday like singing “Family Tradition” at the top of your lungs with cuuuzins.

And…Chrisy singing her special song for the birthday girl…not sure what the song was but it was pure entertainment!

As you can tell my weekend was a whirlwind of family, drinks and live music (whether Mike Posner or Chrisy) and I loved every minute of it.  So. Much. Fun.

Easter and Wine

Easter was a little more low key for the Nash household this year, but I am not complaining.  It was just my parents, my uncle Bill, my brother and his fiancé, and me.  (sister Molly was in Washington DC visiting friends) For one reason or another I did not take very many pictures but here are the few I did manage to snap before getting lost in the delicious brunch my mom cooked up for us.  Below are the table settings…I really thought it looked so pretty, thanks mom for putting in so much effort to make everything look and taste amazing!

Poor little Skeeter cat sitting outside the door while we all eat our lives away.

I remember making these delicious birds nests things when I was younger and in Girl Scouts.  I managed to see a picture of them on the internet and was reminded just how darn good they are  and so I made them for Easter this year.  They are everything I remembered…sooo yummy and super easy to make.

The Friday before Easter (yes I know it is aka Good Friday) we attended the Third Annual Graperil party hosted by several of our friends.  Below was a gift to one of the guys from his mom…it was cute and it hopped when you pressed its little paw.

The theme of aforementioned Graperil is to dress up and be sophisticated and drink white wine all night.  We clearly came the part…looking gorgeous in our dresses and fancy clothes and then to really top of the look we had to bring our woozies.  What is a wine party without a woozie??  Acrylic wine glasses embraced with our woozies was the perfect combination to this style of party.  If you have never heard of a woozie you must check out their website  We have loved these amazing things since the day we set eyes on them years ago when Kelly received one as a gift down in Georgia. It is like a koozie you would use for a beer, only it is for your wine glass.

And the final picture is of a bunch of us looking hot and sophisticated ready to drink some white wine!  We had a great time, as always, and I am excited to learn what the next theme party might be.  I hope everyone out there had a great Easter with friends and family, perhaps next Easter the bunny rabbit will give you a Woozie in your basket!

Things you need to know about…

First thing you need to know: this is NOT a serious post, it is full of super random pictures and things I have recently become borderline obsessed with. So, with that, let me begin with a really cute picture of Nala Jean or at least I think it is cute.

The picture below just makes me laugh every time I look at it.  Kelly was innocently laying on the couch at her brother and sister-in laws house with the pet tiger.  It just happened to look like she was seriously on the verge of loosing her foot to the tiger, which is obviously fake (who owns a real tiger…I know I am from Zanesville but come on) but it looks sooooo real in this picture!!!!

One of the saddest pictures EVER…this here means I have to wait an entire year for the next St. Patrick’s Day…they haven’t even started the countdown to 2013, boooo!! I wonder when they actually do start it?

HaPpY HoUr with one of my all time favorite drinks…the dirty martini, YUM!!!!

Ok,if anyone is even still reading this; enough with the random pictures and on to the things you need to know about.  Kroger brand (private selection) Organic Baby Spring Mix WITH HERBS…it is that last part that makes this mix soooo flipping ridiculously good.  You must, must, must try this.  I am not even sure what the herbs are…possibly some dill, cilantro…I don’t even know for sure, but it makes this mix so much better then just regular lettuce.  TRY IT NOW!

And to carry my delicious salad find to work for lunch I came across this handy dandy Gladware container made especially for salad AND the dressing.  I hate having to take an entire bottle of salad dressing with me because I normally go to the gym after work and don’t get home until later…which mean I have to leave the bottle in the warm car, which doesn’t make me happy.  This container has a little cup that you put the dressing in and it pops right in to the lid.  It is not messy and it holds the perfect amount of dressing.

Again, you must look for these and try them out if you ever pack yourself a salad because it is perfection!!!

Last thing I have become borderline (ok fully) obsessed with is this trilogy.  My cousin Kelly (who still has both feet despite the picture above) heard about this book while watching tv recently. She said they described it as “a softcore porn book that all of the housewives are becoming addicted too”…sounded slightly intriguing but not something I would normally pick up and read.  I continued to hear great things about the books and it was soon on the New York Times Bestseller list…and so I gave in because I wanted to know what all of the fuss was about.  (Back story…my mom briefly heard Kelly talking about this book and because my mom has an obsession with purchasing books she bought it not knowing it was, shall we say…risqué)  So I borrowed it from my mom…I am obsessed. This book is hot, it is full of passion…to be honest, it is pretty descriptive and as some points left me semi embarrassed to be reading it. It even caused me to check out who was around me like I was being “caught” reading something I wasn’t supposed to…BUT the love story is magical. I am a sucker for romance and the main character, Anastasia, is so easy to relate to.  I cannot wait to read the second and third book in this trilogy and if you can let yourself get past the erotica (for lack of better words) of this book and focus on the story (which you can and must because it is amaze-balls) you will fall in love with these books as well.  There is a reason it made the bestsellers list, check it out!!!!

Fearless and Sparkling

I don’t even know where to start with this post, so forgive me if it seems to be all over the place.  Over the last couple of weeks I have felt a little lost…I have been seeking out things; quotes, blogs, songs…anything to help me find my footing again.  I am not embarrassed about this at all because I know it is a normal thing for me and I imagine it is probably a normal cycle for others as well.

One of the things I came across is Oprah’s Lifeclass on the OWN network, or you can find it on her website  I have always been a fan of Oprah but this particular series couldn’t have come at a better time for me.  It really forced me to look at aspects of my life and question things a little more deeply.  The things I am going to write about are specific to me, to my life and my situation…they are my perspective.

Lesson #1: People become addicted to their story and it gets them stuck.  I believe this to be true for myself and so I will tell my story one last time and be done with it.  I will tell my story…the one I have become comfortable with, the one I have become addicted to, the story that I have let define me for the last 3 years.

I am divorced. There, I said it.

I know I have written about this from time to time and referenced it many times because it is/was/will always be a huge chunk of who I am, but I have let it become all that I am.  I don’t mean I sit around still depressed that my marriage didn’t work…I mean I have let it be my story, my only story. I have let my divorce stop me dead in my tracks.  I have used it as an excuse to put my life on hold, I have used it as an excuse to live my life in such a pattern that I am just waiting for the next big milestone to come my way. I have somehow spent the last 3 years worrying about reaching goals that I never even set.  I have spent the last 3 years trying to fall in love again with a person that I was never going to really ever give a chance to. (no one specific) I have let myself become wounded.

My divorce has defined me, defined every single move I have made for the last 3 years.  I am in no way blaming the ex for this, obviously he helped pave the path that lead to the divorce but I can’t hold him accountable for the last 3 years of my life.  The definition of my life and the story I have held on to is my own, not his; and so I will let it go…

I will no longer live my life on hold. I will no longer sit around waiting for a man to appear and make my life “complete”.  I will make choices everyday that will send me forward and help me to create and live the life I want.  I will set goals, actual real goals, and I will take steps to reach them.  I will stop living fearful and start living fearless. I am in control now, not my divorce, and the life I have mapped out makes me excited.  It makes me happy to finally realize what I have been doing, and to take steps in a direction that feels very positive! The next time a story comes along that I let define me in a negative way I will be better at recognizing it and letting it go.

I love this!!!

Don’t ever let anyone dull your sparkle.  Well I have, and that anyone has been me.  I have dulled my own sparkle for awhile now and I am ready to start shining things back up…I am ready to sparkle again. Who is with me!?!?!
