The Sound of a Million Dreams…

I recently went to a David Nail concert in a smaller venue called The Bluestone and was reminded of so many things:

1. I love live music.

2. I love small venues.

3. I love singing along to great music at the top of my lungs with great friends…or complete strangers!

4. The yellow scarf I HAD to have for this concert proved to very cute (if I can toot my own horn) and I think it really brought some summer to those around me…that last thing was most likely in my head…but whatever, it made me think summer thoughts which really helped me to sing louder and most likely better, obviously!

5. I love singers that put huge amounts of emotion into their songs, voices and body language while singing…all of which David Nail, well…nailed (haha, I crack myself up) But seriously two of my most favorite songs by him are simply because of the lyrics. The first is called “Turning Home” which you can check out the lyrics here.  It was written by the great Kenney Chesney which doesn’t surprise me…but at any rate, I love it. The second song I recently have found a love for is called “The Sound of a Million Dreams” which I think he said it will be his next single.  You can read all of the lyrics here , or listen to it here but my favorite part is the chorus, which reads/sings like this:

“So I labor for hours ‘cause I know the power

Of a song when a song hits you right

Pouring my soul into stories of life

Hoping someone’ll hear one tonight

Maybe my voice will cut through the noise

And stir up an old memory

And out of these piano keys

Comes the sound, the sound of a million dreams

This simple chorus is exactly why I love actual lyrics to songs…it is why I love music.  I love that this song is about an artist writing music and singing in hopes that the listener will really feel the song and continue feeling the song long after the first listen…they want memories made during their songs that will be remembered every time you hear the song.

“The power of a song when a song hits you right” I love that feeling, to be brought to laughter, tears, anxiousness…to be brought to any emotion simply by hearing a song and being taken back in time to when you listened to it and felt those emotions prior… it’s magical to me.

And now when I hear David Nail I will instantly be back in that little venue with great friends and cousins singing along like crazy people.  I will remember the smell, the colors, the absolute contentment I had being there with everyone…and the yellow scarf, of course the yellow scarf!

Lastly…(I promise, last random thought): I love this chorus because even though he is talking about singing and writing a song I relate to it even more on a blogging level. “Pouring my soul into stories of life, hoping someone will hear one tonight” That is pretty much my goal every single time I sit down to write a blog post.  I pour myself into these words…I don’t hold back, I write exactly how I would talk…and I do it all in hopes someone will read it and feel something…that they will read it and relate to my situations and thoughts and look a little differently at life…I write because even thought it is not a song my words can hit you right and I hope they usually do. So…listen to these songs, not just the music, listen to the lyrics because they are both beautiful and inspirational. And read my words and continue to read my words because I really am pouring my soul in to every single post I do!

Three Thing Thursday!

I have three things I need to talk about this lovely rainy/snowy Thursday.

1. Piada:

piada one

This place is amazing and I feel foolish that today was the first time I have even stepped foot in this place and ate there. It is “Italian Street Food” and is sort of like an Italian Chipotle. That description alone should make you want to run your buns straight to the nearest Piada, but just in case let me describe the food. You can order something called a piada (weird name I know) that is this flatbread tortilla looking thing covered in some sort of garlic olive oil spread and then you stuff it full of pasta noodles, sauces, veggies, meat, cheese, etc, etc, etc. I know it sounds super weird to put pasta in a tortilla but trust me when I say, it is delicious. If you just don’t feel like you can have that many carbs in one meal then just go with the pasta bowl (which for the record is still a ton of carbs so if that is your issue just go with the piada and get over yourself) Below is a picture of this deliciousness so run yourself to Piada immediately!!!!

2. Second thing I am going to mention I am only doing so because I cannot imagine I am the only person that has had this specific thing happen to them. It first happened a couple weekends ago when I was sick and home on the couch with my mom. It was just like any other day other than the fact that I was sick, laying on my parents couch, my mom was with me, and I wasn’t at work…anyways; we were flipping thru the channels and there was nothing on. We happened to stop on the Style network and caught an episode of this show called “Big, Rich Texas”

Yes, it was stupid but for some reason we found ourselves watching the entire hour…and then before we knew what was happening another episode had started immediately without giving us fair warning and so obviously we got sucked in to that one too. Hours later we were still sitting there talking to the tv and each other as if we knew these women and their daughters. Needless to say, we had stumbled across a marathon of the dang thing and we got hooked in a major way. Fast forward to this past Sunday and it was a day just like any other Sunday but somehow I let myself get suckered into another marathon of another dumb show called “Dance Moms”

dance moms

I have to say that although these shows are ridiculous and I feel like I had hours and hours of my precious life just taken away from me, robbed by these rich bitchy women and crazy dance moms…I found myself wanting to know what day and time they are on again. Perhaps I am nuts but I have to think I am not the only person in the world that has let this happen. Right????

3. Lastly…and this is a pretty random one (as if the other two were completely normal) today at work one of the ladies I work with received flowers. Yes I know, how sweet…but they were from someone she does business with which is still really nice. Ok,anyway the point of this story is what was in the flower arrangement. Randomly there was this weird little nest with a poor tiny neon green bird. I mean, why is it necessary to ruin a good flower arrangement with a weird dead looking pathetic bird. My words just aren’t going to do it justice so naturally I took a picture. See for yourself just how random and weird, and if i am being honest, CREEPY this poor little bird looks.

Like, why….that is all I am saying?!?!?

Ok so those were my three things for Thursday. Watch out everyone because tomorrow is Friday the 13th so keep your head on and good luck out there!

One Year Later…

One year ago today I became apart of an amazing team with an amazing dream (I did not mean for that to rhyme) and I could not be happier.  The Oakstone Health Center has been open and seeing patients for a year.  It has been a crazy and fun journey…many learning experiences, touching stories, difficult situations…but it has all been worth it because in the end I go to work every day and feel like I am making a difference in the life of our patients.  Plus, I get to go to work every day and spend my time with this crazy lady

July 2011 083

The lovely Dr. Kristen Kenney…isn’t she precious?!?! I feel this picture depicts the day to day happenings of our relationship..she says crazy things and I react exactly like I am in this picture, all while she smiles…haha. But seriously, I would not have wanted to begin this journey with anyone but her. It is so rare to work with someone that has the same sense of humor, same outlook on life, same work ethic…it makes it so much easier when crap hits the fan and you can look at your partner in crime and not even have to say a thing cause you know the same thoughts are flying thru both of your minds!

The journey of Oakstone Health Center has been fun, rewarding and I can’t even imagine where we will be in 5 years but I do know I will still be laughing with this lady because we make a great team… She is seriously one of the best doctors I have ever known: she knows her stuff and she cares about her patients and they can sense both, AND I am pretty darn good at keeping the day to day operations running smooth amongst other things. All in all, every day is an adventure and I am thankful every single day that I made the move with Dr. Kenney and helped her start Oakstone Health Center and I intend on sticking around to see just how amazing and big we can make this thing!!!!

To end, it just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t let you know how to reach us over at the health center.  Dr. Kenney is a primary care doctor, so if you need one or get sick give us a call because we are awesome and we seriously care about every single one of our patients!!!  Oakstone Health Center

12 Goals for 2012…

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my D-Day, as I call it…in plain English, it is the day I got divorced 2 years ago.  Why in the world am I bringing this up in my post about goals for 2012 you may ask?!? I am a strong believer that you can’t get where you are going without looking at where you have been, and learning from it.  It makes me sad to think about that day, but I don’t regret that day…I have learned soooo much from that man, from that marriage, from that experience; both good and bad but the most important thing that came from that experience is that it brought me to where I am right now, on this day, with these words flowing out of me on to this computer screen.  I would not be what I am today had I not gone thru what I did then…and I will always believe in that!

And so it is another year, an even year which I have always been a fan of..2012. 12 just sounds better than 11, it rolls off the tongue better, i like writing it better, it’s not odd.  This year i have decided to make 12 goals for the year 2012 and I will post them here and now so that I am held accountable for them…so that I am putting them out there into the world and hoping I accomplish them over the next 361 (its already Jan.4th) days. Keep in mind, I am a very open person and so I am going to type exactly how I wrote these out in my journal holding nothing back so please don’t judge…or do, i actually don’t care either way. What I do hope is that you make 12 goals for yourself as well and not be embarrassed to share them and own them and live them for the next year.  And now without further ado, my goals:

1. Drink more water, drink less pop!

2. Become more vegan-eat less processed foods and bad sugar.

3. Therapy-believe and trust in the process of healing and moving on.

4. Date, date, date…and then let myself fall in love again and be loved. I deserve this!

5. Continue my cardio MMA classes but include more CrossFit and yoga.

6. Stop caring about what I am SUPPOSED to do and focus on what I WANT to do.

7. Stop procrastinating!

8. Blog, blog, blog-it makes me happy so I should do it more often.

9. Remain kind, compassionate and empathetic…be love :)

10. Drink less…no more drunken, bad emotional decisions or words :(

11. Start going back to church-I feel more at peace when I do this!

12. Begin to write a book.

There you have them…12 goals for 2012. These are all mine, some are simple-ish, some are deeper…but I plan on working on all of them.  I have come along way over the last 2 years and learned a lot and I will take all of that with me in to 2012 to help me with the next chapter of my life and hopefully come 2013 (even though I am not a fan of odd years) I will have become an even better person!

My mantra for 2012: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”
